Bottom Line³ ™ is a business philosophy that promotes the benefits of having a balanced strategy for 3 distinct, yet related business components: people, planet and profits.
Bottom Line³ ™ is based on the Triple Bottom Line (TBL), which was originally released in 1994.It was developed by John Elkington as an accounting method to capture the impact of corporate decisions on these 3 components.Bottom Line³ ™ (BL3) expands TBL into a strategic tool for assessing and addressing the needs and priorities of people, planet and profit.
First, let's define what we mean by people, planet and profit:
People:
¤Stakeholders:employees, customers, vendors and investors:training, compensation, partnerships, collaboration, communication, relationships
¤Culture:environment, benefits, perks, positive, supportive, team, vision and mission
Planet:
¤Legacy:leadership exit strategy, culture development and procession, long-term impact on market, what does management want to leave being known for
¤Community:involvement in the community, service work, contributions to causes, socially responsible investing and purchasing, impact on planet, environment, sustainability
Profit:
¤Products & Services:current and new product and service developments, quality control, real needs in the market
¤Sales & Marketing: Long term and short term sales strategies, scope and scale of company growth, brand and market strategy
